Hi,

My religion class and me talked about this question for about 50 minutes or so. But we weren't really able to discuss every point. And so we ended up in an aborted discussion.

Viktor Frankl said, that we are determined (means: we cannot choose an option ourself. We will do that because something in our brain says it). However, there are also philosophs that say, we are free and do decide things on our own without any "higher being" manipulating us.

So now let's talk a bit about it. What do you think?

In my opinion determined human doesn't exist. Human as a being to continue existing needs to set a goal, so over the years he tries to be better and better and reach some kind of perfection (which didn't happen so far). Some people don't get this good and they think that goal for perfection is actually affecting them on how they do their actions.
The human mind is free in any case, maybe some people can manipulate others, but that's only a weakness of the human. Whatever choice we make reflects on us, so if we don't do anything at all, nothing will reflect on us. Only we decide if things happen for us or they stagnate.

This descussion will not result in anything because both sides have no solid proof of anything. It is just like if two groups of people gathered to argue about the colour of buggers of aliens.

I tend to think that a human being is predetermined, or at least partly determined, leaving some unimportant things to vary. I don't say it is done by God, or written in some book, or something, i just think that any living organism is an event-responding mechanism. You are hungry - you look for food. You need to have company - you make friends. You are threatened - you protect yourself. Ofcource the system is much more complicated and a million different parameters influence ones decision.

human is just stupid
but it is treatable

perfection is unattainable limit: at each step there are new prospects for improvement

Quote:
We will do that because something in our brain says it

something in our brain
if its in our brain why should it be stranger?
if its God or something like he is very vicious : he let us believe that we are free but we arent at all

Is the question: do humans have Free Will?
In my personal opinion, who gives a damn?
If its a illusion, this illusion is good enough for me.
